The Clinician-Scientists Transdisciplinary Aging Research (Clin-STAR) Coordinating Center is seeking to fund pilot grants of up to $50,000 each. The funding provides opportunities to build mentee-mentor relationships at different institutions and content expertise in different disciplines for the junior investigator. Awards will be made to junior clinician-scientists who work collaboratively with a senior investigator from a different discipline and institution to stimulate new areas of age-related clinical human subjects research. This is a one year research position at UCSF for medical students between their third and fourth year of medical school. Students will spend time working with Dr. Daniel Butler at the Geriatric Dermatology clinic at the SFVA and conducting various projects related to aging skin.
This is a National Institute of Aging funded summer research project for medical students interested in aging research. Students apply and spend the summer between their 1st and 2nd year working on a research project focused on aging patients. Projects can be completed at home or away institutions depending on the student’s preference.
The overall goal of the GEMSSTAR program is to provide support for early career physician-scientists trained in medical or surgical specialties and early career dentist-scientists to launch careers as future leaders in aging- or geriatric-focused research. The GEMSSTAR award is targeted to those who have recently completed their medical, surgical, or dental training in any specialty or discipline and are embarking on a career in clinical aging research in their specialty area.
This Funding Opportunity targets emerging leaders who are clinically trained (primarily physician) early-stage investigators who have begun to establish research careers and have shown signs of leadership potential who will use this award to further develop the tools, skills and resources to have a significant impact in their field of expertise.
